What is Grace?

Grace is the unearned and undeserved favor of God toward humanity. It means that God offers love, forgiveness, and salvation not because of anything we have done, but simply because of His goodness and mercy. The Bible teaches that grace is a free gift, most clearly shown through Jesus Christ, who offers redemption and new life to all who believe on Him.

Grace assures us that, despite our flaws and failures, God’s love remains constant and His forgiveness is always available. As Ephesians 2:8-9 states:

“ For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Key things to Remember:

  • Grace is Unearned, and Undeserved.
  • Grace is given through faith on Jesus Christ.
  • “It is not of yourselves” – Grace is not given because of the kind of person you are, or because of anything you have or have not done.
  • “It is the gift of God”- Gifts are free.
  • “Not of works” – There is nothing you can do to earn Grace. You don’t earn grace by going to church, being kind to others, living a righteous life, etc.
  • Through grace, believers are invited into a relationship with God, empowered to live transformed lives, and called to extend grace to others.
